Each summer the EMCS Society hires a Summer Youth Engagement Coordinator to facilitate FOR youth BY youth events, grassroots community action, and participation in regional decision-making. The objective of Youth For Sooke is to initiate and organize new events and initiatives for youth in our region.  See what's happening now HERE.

Sooke and Westshore Literacy Outreach has exciting projects such as Books for Breakfast, Story Walks, Summer reading program, and the Book Bin program.

The Play & Learn Summer Camp is a free, 4-week academic intervention camp for approximately 25 children ages 6-9 years old. Now in its 14th year, this successful camp continues to deliver great results and happy campers. 

The Makerspace is an initiative that allows the local community to access the wealth of equipment available at EMCS after school hours.

Gain access to a woodshop, sewing and textiles equipment, 3D printers, CNC, metal plasma cutter, and coming soon - a Digital Arts Lab.

  • Sooke MS

Now in its 10th year, this summer program provide a rich play-based learning environment for 4 weeks, immersing students in literacy & numeracy activities designed to foster their existing academic skills, and to improve their self-confidence and enjoyment in these subject areas.

In 2020, the program was funded by the EMCS Society, Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences, the Rotary Club of Sooke, Excellence in Literacy Foundation, Decoda Literacy Solutions – Sooke Region Literacy Task Group, School District No. 62 (Sooke), Sooke Harbourside Lions, HRSDC (Canada Youth Summer Jobs), and The Edith Lando Charitable Foundation. These funders made it possible to offer the camp to families at no charge.

Crate of Vegetables

Good Food Box is an alternative food distribution system for sustainably grown fruits and vegetables. The highest quality produce is purchased which ensures variety, freshness and affordability. Priority is given to locally grown produce with a focus on seasonal fruits and vegtables.

Call the Program Office to order: 250-642-6371.

Collect your Good Food Box at the high school between 1-2 pm on our pick up date.
