Adult Learning Needs Assessment

The EMCS Society and Sooke Literacy Project would like to know what you think about opportunities for adults and youth to improve or further their learning in the Sooke Region. The purpose of this research is to find out what kinds of educational programs and learning environments are ideal for this region and to create a plan to develop or bring these kinds of programs here to Sooke. The survey results are completely confidential and no personal information will be collected. If you have any questions, please contact Jodie McDonald at: info@sookeliteracy.ca

New Adult Education Programs - Coming to Sooke!

Almost everyone has struggled with education at some point in their lives. Have you made choices about your education in the past that are now holding you back? Do you dream of a new career or a fulfilling work life, more money and better opportunities, but you just don't have the right educational background? Are you unsure where to start?

This January 2011, a new and exciting adult education program is starting right here in Sooke at EMCS. The goal of this adult education program is to create a friendly, comfortable, relaxed learning environment designed for many different kinds of adult learners. These classes will help you overcome any fear or lack of confidence you may have about returning to school, and help you get started on a new path.

In these classes, adult learners can:

  • greatly improve their skills in writing, math and computers
  • gain confidence in their ability to learn, grow and make changes in their lives
  • earn high school credits alongside other adult learners
  • earn specific high school credits they need to apply for college and university programs

Mark Twain said, "The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one."

We want to help you get started! Courses will begin in January 2011. For more information, look for our brochure coming out this September or contact the EMCS Program Office at 250-642-6371. Registration will begin in October 2010.
